How to Heal Childhood Trauma - Mindfulness, Psychopathy & Dissociation with Christine Forner
Today I'm talking to trauma specialist Christine Forner who specializes in dissociation, mindfulness and trauma healing. This conversation was absolutely mind-blowing to me and Christine shares some groundbreaking ideas that I believe are crucial for our continued survival as a species. 🌸
We talk about infants and babies and what happens when they don't get their needs met during the first years of life. We talk about meditation, neurobiology and the possibility of living in an enlightened - not dissociated - state. We're trying to find words for the naturalness, the nurturing and human awareness that exists when all concepts are taken away. We also talk about how we can heal from childhood and intergenerational trauma to live fulfilling lives.
We talk about parenting and the human species as an alloparenting species, meaning not everyone should have children, and how ignoring our nature is wreaking havoc on society and people's mental health. We even touch on psychopathy and how it has shaped our modern world.
But best of all, Christine shares how healing is possible and the world she can imagine where we've healed from trauma.
We touch on a lot of topics in this conversation and I have added time stamps for you to be able to clearly see what's going on! A big part of this conversation was about parenting and understanding the infant's experience. Understanding that infants feel pain and what happens when infants are neglected or hurt. Especially the dissociation that happens when we're not meeting the needs of infants and toddlers.
We also talk about how we can heal this neglect many of us experienced during childhood, and doing this though meditation. Christine also differentiates between a common misconception: that mindfulness or meditation is dissociation.

I/we have "stuff' that will have to be dealt with after death. However we've told our children that unless they want something, 99.99999% of it can be thrown away or given away to a thrift shop...where most of it came from anyway. 😉 The only thing that's worth anything in the house is our high-end grand piano. Since neither of them play and thus far none of the grandkids either, our hope is that it will go to someone who'll appreciate it. The rest is merely stuff. (BTW we declutter once or twice a year depending on the type of items.) My father died and my mother has indicated things she wants to give to me and my siblings. Honestly there is not one single thing of hers I want...."Gifting" things not wanted now isn't always such a nice "gift" for someone who truly has no need/desire for it now or in the future.

What's the current Swedish relationship with smart phones? I look around public spaces like airports and all I see are adults absolutely glued to their phones and the kids as well playing video games or whatever. Everyone is ignoring everyone else. Luckily, my own kids grew up on the cusp, just before every nine year old HAD to have his/her own phone.

Tack!

Thank you for sharing your story and experience. Both my kids have autism and it was alot to learn as a parent. But now I see it like a very positive. Sure it’s not easy for anyone that feels they are different when the whole society is built for people without diagnosis “normal” so you really have to fight for getting help in school. Now I live in Sweden and that’s not the best place to get help today.

Do jews try that every non-jew girl would make one kid with them (somehow balancing between jews (minority) and the others) and to keep it as secret maybe and then find maybe correct husband later. There are other problems with jews also than the religion. They have a sickness, they newer smile openly, its a kind of a grin, they use speed and they have genetically possibly also a reason why they do not smile, they are all kinds of "invalids". They typically stick a ugly unit of their girls along with every prettier of women what is left and they repeatedly lead them to dangerous situations. Typically the situations include drinking of alcohol (assuming that speed is not in the list). The women, if they like to think of this together should find the prettier minority of each other, not to talk with the jewish "bestis" girl or what ever it is.

Thank you, Saga, and thank you Christine. I have been thinking about this topic of how we can return to live in a society like we had for 100.000s of years but lost 10.000 years ago. A society where happiness, peacefulness and the feeling of being a connected everything comprehending being was the normal state of existence. This video has given me a lot of new information and views on this incredibly important issue, so thank you! I am also so lucky to have an autistic girlfriend as my partner, who is able to see through the disguises that society and patriarchy use to hide the fact that everything would be great, if we would just love each other, nothing else. (Your description of "Nothingness" for this state feels like the absolutely best description possible with words.) So thank you, Saga, for also sharing your incredibly special view on this matter. This is defineteley one of the most influential pieces of information of my life.

As my fiancee and i get closer to buying our single family home, he talks more and more about making sure we get LVP floors because we have three cats and they are very hard on our veneer hardwood floors. He feels that even actual hardwood floors won't stand up to their claws just from every day playing. Does anyone have ideas or thoughts in this based on experience? I really dont want unnatural materials in my home, but i feel i will lose this "battle."

I get that you think it’s disgusting to use a blanket because they don’t get washed as often as sheets but that’s why we use a top sheet in my country…to separate our bodies from the blankets. Plus a sheet tends to make you not get as hot in the night. I do like your idea of separate bedding however.

Do you mean the question of how we are misstreating children according to their nervous system 1:41 ? I think what Christine is saying is that children's nervous systems are made for receiving an incredible amount of love and care from their parental caregivers that we do not provide for them today. It would be in ours and the babies biology to feel their needs and to fulfill them unconditionally for the first 5 years of their lives. Only this would let them feel loved, connected and cared for the way it is supposed to feel. Otherwise, they feel like something is incredibly wrong, as babies but also still as grown-ups.

Honestly, I don’t know what she meant with that, maybe just that there is no exact translation of ”please” to swedish. That doesn’t mean people aren’t just as polite. I’ve taught my kids to always say ”skulle jag kunna…” instead of ”jag vill ha” or even worse ”Ge…”. For example ”Skulle jag kunna få mera mat?” That is polite in itself, and my kids better säg ”tack”, lol! If they forget sometimes at home it’s ”och vad säger man…?” 😂

@SagaJohanna Regarding the race thing, ppl already have the common sense you do, that isn't the problem. The bank doesn't ask your race. Instead, Institutions like the bank, hospitals, etc will just assume based on how you look, or ignore you and put you down in a box they feel you should be, And without showing/telling you right away even if you ask to make sure. You might find out by seeing it on Dr papers, later down the line And yes it does affect the medical care or lack of, that you get. As well as what loans/opportunities you get access to or not. So when you say do how the Swedish do, regarding race, in America we do NOT have that luxury.

I am 43 never marred nor wanted or have kids. I never wanted them as long as I could remember and i didn’t care. So i figured, probably not smart to make myself have one. Then everyone states you will die alone. Having a child doesn’t guarantee you won’t die alone. Also, many people have kids and then pawn them off or kick them out at 15. My parents were great and I think you have to really want to be one

Mental health, pressure, sleeplessness, competition, dissatisfaction few but strong words to convice me not to have a child. I've seen one perfect example, someone i know, despite of having a lovely family, ended up depressed, divorced and psychological challenging. The kids seeing that everyday becomes traumatic for them. Poor kids they have to be in this situation. So kids... Its a no for me.

I conceived accidentally with my children- although my first daughter partner didn’t last, the child from my second partner now husband, and me have absolutely improved in our relationship. Our bond has grown over the years, we were unprepared, had no money, didn’t know anything about birthing, nutrition or anything else you mentioned and we raise our children just fine- in fact, working in mental health, the clients I encounter who constantly dwell on their own diagnoses and all the problems related to self instead of serving others and giving, are the most unhappy people I know. Postpartum depression is common but also very short term, some of these videos and content about mental health are not only misleading they are outright wrong.
